Slow Food versus Fast Food. Two trends with two completely different motivations and ideas. Slow food does not just mean translated, slow food. Behind Slow Food Movement is much more. A healthy and conscious movement around nutrition that is also very popular in Germany.
The Slow Food Movement
The idea does not come from Germany but from Italy. The idea of Slow Food was originally conceived as a countermovement to globalized fast food with the aim of preserving regional food and local recipes. In 1986 Carlo Petrini founded the Slow Food Movement on the occasion of the opening of a branch of a fast-food chain directly on the Spanish Steps in Rome.
Slow Food stands for healthy nutrition and conscious enjoyment of regional food. Slow Food emphasizes the idea of good taste with a conscious diet.
Benefits of Slow Food
A healthy diet is not only good for your soul and well-being, it also has a positive effect on digestion and the intestines. Hunger and satiety are perceived more consciously.
Quite contrary to the philosophy of fast food, where food means fast breastfeeding and often too many calories are given to the body. Enjoyment as such can subconsciously take a back seat in this form of nutrition. The extent of nutrition via fast food on body and health can not even be estimated correctly. In the idea of Slow Food, enjoyment and taste are in the foreground.
Foods that are produced in a natural and original way are the basis for nutrition according to the Slow Food philosophy. This has further advantages: Regional manufacturers and their production methods are indirectly supported. Mass animal husbandry and genetic engineering, on the other hand, avoided.
Organic products combined with regionally typical preparation result in a wide variety of tastes, which makes conscious enjoyment in the daily diet possible.
Slow Food starts at home
You can make a small but decisive contribution at home on the balcony or in your own garden. Set up your own Slow Food bed in the garden and plant various vegetables such as:
Tomatoes or various herbs can also simply be raised in a pot on the balcony or windowsill.
Especially for children the conscious and qualitatively good nutrition is a must. Children should be able to learn and distinguish the difference between peppers and tomatoes from the beginning.
When shopping, pay attention to the quality of the food that lands in your shopping basket. Depending on the season, the weekly market offers a variety of regional and seasonal typical products.
Slow Food in Germany
The Slow Food Movement has long arrived in Germany. This is proven by numerous events and trade fairs. Every year since 2007, the Slow Food Fair takes place in Stuttgart. Slow Food has also become an integral part of major international trade fairs, such as the International Green Week Berlin and the "Internorga" trade fair. The Slow Food Association has established itself worldwide with the aim of sustainably preserving the diversity of tastes.
