The nose is closed, it scratches in the throat, it makes you feel tired and broken - these are clear signs that an infection is approaching. Especially when the immune system - for example, due to stress - already struck, you are particularly vulnerable. Colds or flu-like infections are infections of the mucous membranes of the nose, throat or bronchi. According to an old folk wisdom, such an infection takes one week without treatment and seven days with treatment, but with some tips and tricks you can get rid of your cold more quickly. We present you some over-the-counter, herbal and homeopathic medicines as well as various home remedies for colds.
Angocin® Anti-Infect N
Angocin® Anti-Infect N is one of the herbal remedies for colds. The ingredients include nasturtium and horseradish. Both substances contain so-called mustard oils, which are responsible for the healing properties of Angocin®. In monastery medicine, mustard oils have been used for centuries for colds and sinusitis, as well as tonsillitis and urinary tract infections. Meanwhile, their effect has also been scientifically proven: mustard oils slow down the growth of pathogens and kill off not only bacteria and viruses, but also fungi and yeasts.
The mustard oils contained in Angocin® enter the blood via the intestine, then circulate through our body and eventually accumulate in excretory organs such as the lungs or kidneys. In case of an infection of the upper respiratory tract or the urinary tract, the mustard oils can thus kill the bacteria directly on site. This is a big difference between Angocin® and, for example, antibiotics. Side effects of Angocin® Anti-Infect N are hardly known, and occasionally gastrointestinal complaints can occur. In case of ulcers in the gastrointestinal tract as well as in acute inflammation of the kidney, the drug should not be taken.
Depending on how severe the infection is, it is recommended to take 4 to 5 times daily 4 to 5 film-coated tablets Angocin® Anti Infect N. The daily dose for children is about 3 times 2 tablets. In lower doses, Angocin® can also be used in the longer term for the prevention of an infection, especially a flu disease in winter. For exact dosage of Angocin® ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Imupret®, like Angocin®, is a herbal medicine. It contains, among others, chamomile flowers, marshmallow root, yarrow, dandelion and horsetail. Imupret® is used for respiratory diseases such as tonsillitis, sinusitis and bronchitis. On the one hand, Imupret® has an immune-boosting effect and on the other anti-inflammatory. Due to its immune-boosting effect, the use of Imupret® is recommended for the first signs of the disease. Alternatively, Meditonsin® can be taken at the beginning of a cold. Meditonsin® combats and relieves the symptoms of inflammation of the throat, nose and throat.
During an acute infection, adults should take 5 to 6 times daily two dragees or 25 drops of Imupret®. In children, the dose is lower. Just like Angocin®, Imupret® can also be used preventively to protect against colds. For more detailed dosage information, see the package leaflet or contact your doctor or pharmacist. As a possible side effect of Imupret® it should be mentioned here that in rare cases it can lead to allergic skin reactions.
Metavirulent® is a homeopathic medicine used in acute influenza infections and their prevention. It is a complex, as it is composed of several individual agents: It contains both viral (Influencinum nosode), as well as herbal and mineral active ingredients. Nosodes promote the attack on the body's defenses and thereby activate the immune system of the respective organ. Therefore, after ingestion, as with other homeopathic remedies, an initial exacerbation of the symptoms may occur. However, further side effects of Metavirulent® are not known.
Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, adults should take 5 to 10 drops a maximum of twelve times a day during an acute infection. For children, the drug is not suitable because it contains 37 vol .-% alcohol. Therefore, Metavirulent® should not be used by alcoholics. If there is no improvement in the state of health after three days despite a high fever, Metavirulent® should be consulted. He can also give you more detailed information on the dosage of Metavirulent®.
